When Ponch and I had to take Brandon to the emergency room, when he needed stitches, back in January...it was a horrible experience from the minute we got there until the time we left. The admitting nurses were very rude to Ponch while I was in the room calming Brandon down and nursing him. Then, the attending ER doc, had no bedside manner whatsoever and the entire time dealing with him was horrible. Not to mention that after they gave him a shot to numb his poor finger, they put the syringe on the counter in the room, not those boxes that are just for needles, and they used paper towels to stop his finger from bleeding. The ER doc made a few rude comments to me about breastfeeding and made a comment about my pediatrician, which floored me. I love my ped! She has been great since I has Serena and I like her and respect her as a patient and a person. So, when the ER doc made the comment about my ped, I was pissed. I came home and about a week later wrote a letter to the hospital, explaining how our visit to the ER went. It was a 3 pager. Kind of long, but I wanted them to know just what happened while we were there and that I would not be going back anytime soon. The letter sat for a while, I am sorry to say. I finally got off the pot and mailed it last week!
So far, I have heard from a lady yesterday, the Administration Supervisor and then a Dr. who is the Medical Director for Emergency Services for the hospital and then today another lady, who is the head of the Admitting Department, following up wanting more info on the admitting lady or ladies who were rude to Ponch. The Dr that called yesterday is sending my letter to another lady who will probably call me and he is going to sit down with the ER Doc and talk to him about my letter and how he treated me and Ponch and Brandon while we were there.
I explained to them I usually don't do things like write letters, but this time I really felt that someone needed to know what was going on in that ER. The lady I spoke to first, told me that the letter was well written and explanatory. I told her thank you!
So, lesson learned! I am glad I wrote that letter. I thought for sure that someone would get it and read it and then toss it, I never thought so many people would call in regards to my letter :) I hope it helps change things in the ER and no other family has to go thru what I went thru.
